A Quick Experiment for a Sunday Afternoon June 7, 2026

Hey peeps. Happy Sunday. Just wanted to put up a quick post on an experiment I just did. So I checked my fasting blood sugar this morning at 7:26am and it read a slightly high 139mg/dl.

Forgive me that I didn't do a pre-breakfast reading but at around 11am I had two Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddles from McDonald's. I know, its not the breakfast of champions I would like to have but its Sunday and I was about to do food shopping.

After finishing at BJs, I decided to crack open a can of Coors Light and tested my blood sugar, which read 187 mg/dl at 12:36pm. The McGriddles did a good job of raising my glucose, which works well for this experiment. Now as I've highlighted in prior posts, beer has away of lowering your blood glucose levels. Your liver normally regulates your glucose and insulin levels. But when you consume alcohol, your liver goes into metabolizing mode and its job as a regulator of your glucose takes a back seat. Keeping that in mind, here's the experiment and results.

As I stated earlier, I started with one 12oz can of Coors Light, followed by a second Silver Bullet can. I didn't eat anything in between the beers. I took a blood glucose stick reading and at 2:33pm, my blood glucose was 98 mg/dl. At just under two hours, my blood sugar went from 187 mg/dl to 98 mg/dl. Thats a drop of 89 points.

While my blood level would have dropped a decent amount in two hours, I believe that the two Coors Light beers helped to expedite the drop. I don't drink very often. But when I do, I try to keep it to roughly 24oz of beer.

Any diabetics out there have any thoughts on this? Let me know in the comments.

Until Then May You Have Some Happy, Safe and Responsible Drinking,
